Gator Updates - News from the Swamp!

Good Morning Gator Families!

Our hopes and wishes for warmer weather have come true and summer is in full swing!  In fact, after this week we will be half way through our summer swim season.  The second half of our season is jam packed with meets and other events, so get ready!  Thanks to everyone who pitched in and helped out last week while I was out.  We took one on the chin at our first away meet but I think it proved to be an excellent learning opportunity that we have built on this week at practice.

This week I have really had the chance to stand back and observe the interactions between our older swimmers and our younger swimmers and it has been a joy to watch.  Our coaches (both volunteer and paid) have really taken ownership of their roles and have pretty much made me useless (in the best way possible).  All of the kids have been making progress in their technique and stamina.  We are getting better each day and it is starting to show!  At the end of each practice, please ask your swimmers what they learned.  It will be fun to hear their response!

Here is some important information:

1. Small group/1 on 1 instruction!!

Do you have a swimmer that wants extra help with a specific stroke or skill? (breaststroke, butterfly or flip turns to name a few). We have extra pool space during our eventing practice from 6:15-7:00 and coaches available on deck.  If your child would like extra help or instruction, please email me and let me know or simply bring your child up to one of our on deck coaches during this time and they will be happy to help!

2.  Anyone interested in Adult swim (aka Gator Masters)???

This week I let Melynn talk me into swimming a few relays with the kids at practice.  I made a proper fool out of myself swimming a 50 fly for the first time in many years, but I will admit it was fun to swim with the kids as a part of a relay. Many of our older swimmers (11 and older) are opting to swim at our morning practice which leaves extra pool space from 6:15-7:00. I took an informal survey of some parents on deck last night and we have some that are interested in doing a small adult group swim (including myself).  If you are interested in training together, please let me know!  No butterfly - unless you really want to.  I can bring some workouts but also leave a lot of things up for "choice".  MAYBE we could even challenge Bermuda Run to a mixed parent relay at our last home meet?????????  Who's in??

3.  Glenridge Hosts Jonestown this Tuesday June 17th.

Our next home meet is this Tuesday, June 17th.  Buddy Scoops Ice Cream and Flatland Burgers will be our vendors for this meet.  Please declare your swimmer by Sunday June 15th by 5:00pm.  Don't forget to sign up for one of our coveted volunteer spots!

4.  Fun Friday!

Tomorrow is our Fun Friday practice! We will hand out ribbons from the Grandview meet and recognize our swimmers' improved performances!  Join us if you are available!

Hope everyone is having a fantastic week!!

Go Gators!!
